Mika Godts, a 21-year-old forward (primarily a left winger) for Ajax Amsterdam (under contract until 2029) and the Belgian national team—who is coming off an excellent season—is a target for Paris Saint-Germain (a fact confirmed by both his agent and the Dutch club). He was initially slated to start in the Dutch side’s Eredivisie match against Zwolle, but was sidelined at the last minute due to a physical issue. This sparked rumors that the move was a precaution ahead of a potential transfer. His agent commented on the matter to De Telegraaf:
“His absence has nothing to do with the situation involving Paris Saint-Germain. That isn’t Mika’s style. It was simply a case of muscle overload. It was a precautionary measure to avoid taking any risks.”
This clarification makes sense, as Godts wouldn’t have been named in the starting lineup in the first place if he were being rested specifically for a transfer. He felt some pain during the warm-up and was consequently rested—the sort of thing that can happen. In fact, the Belgian player did eventually come on during the match. It is important not to conflate the two issues, though one hopes that bringing him on didn’t involve taking an unnecessary risk.
