Stade Rennais hosted Paris Saint-Germain this Sunday evening for the opening round of the Ligue 1 season. While the match initially favored the Rennes players for nearly 70 minutes, it was new PSG signing Ferran Torres who allowed the Rouge et Bleu to level the score with a crucial brace. Brice Samba, the Breton club’s 32-year-old goalkeeper, spoke to Ligue1+ about the match.
Samba: “We have a new world champion in our league.”
How did you feel? Was Ferran Torres’s introduction decisive?
All credit goes to him; we have a new world champion in our league, and we saw his quality firsthand. Those two goals were entirely avoidable. I think that with a bit more concentration, we certainly could have prevented them. But overall, it was a great performance against the two-time European champions. We’re off the mark in terms of points.
Samba: “Naturally, we’re disappointed.”
Is this an interesting start for you?
Of course, of course. Given how the match unfolded, we thought we might win. But look, we won’t turn our noses up at it—it’s a point. Naturally, we’re disappointed, but that’s how it is, and we move forward.
