Paris Saint-Germain traveled to face Stade Rennais this Sunday in the final match of Ligue 1’s opening round, ultimately drawing 2-2 after coming back from a 2-0 deficit at halftime (video highlights here). Speaking to PSG TV, Ferran Torres—the 26-year-old forward who rescued the Parisian club with a brace—discussed the draw.

“I’m not entirely satisfied, because deep down, we wanted to start with a win. But hey, if we can’t win, we have to at least avoid losing. I think we improved as the game went on; now we need to keep working to prepare for the next match. We leave with mixed feelings because we always want to win every game.

PSG faced a tough opening test with their trip to Roazhon Park to play Stade Rennais this Sunday. Trailing 2-0, Luis Enrique’s men had to dig deep to avoid a collapse and, more importantly, turn the tide. At this stage of the season, it is rare to see a team capable of maintaining high intensity for the full 90 minutes.
PSG isn’t built to be at peak fitness in August. However, the mental strength to stay in the game—and especially to claw back the deficit—shows that the team is already fully engaged. While physical sharpness is lacking—and will be for several weeks yet—the ability to come back from 2-0 down away from home proves that the Luis Enrique-era PSG is a force to be reckoned with this season.
