Mika Godts, the 21-year-old Paris Saint-Germain and Belgium forward, spoke to the media ahead of the Nations League match against France this Monday evening at the Stade de France (kick-off at 8:45 PM, CET). It was an opportunity to discuss the upcoming match, his start to the season, and his confidence regarding his future at PSG.
Godts: “They have a lot of confidence in me, so I’m happy to be in Paris.”
In the press conference:
A good start to the season?
I’m happy; I played all three matches with Belgium and got plenty of minutes. We played well as a team, and I did too personally, so I’m pleased. That said, it’s different at PSG. I’m still young; I have to prove myself. They have a lot of confidence in me, so I’m happy to be in Paris alongside great players. I can improve.
Godts: “I know I’ll reach that level.”
Is it possible to become a starter in Paris?
I know I have the qualities to reach that level. It’s just a matter of time. I’ve only just arrived in Paris. It’s a massive club—they’ve won the Champions League twice recently. I’m staying calm, trying to work hard every day and improve, and I know I’ll reach that level.
Speaking to RTL Sports:
In Paris—so, at home?
Yes, it’s Paris, but I’ve never played here before [smiles]. It’ll be special. Ultimately, I just want to play a good game with the team and win.
Godts: “I enjoyed myself and played some good matches.”
Do you want to show what you can do to both the Belgians and the French?
Yes, that would be good. I’m racking up minutes and getting a chance to show what I can do in Belgium, and that’s the most important thing. It allows people to see how I play, which is great.
Did you expect to play so much for the national team?
I didn’t really think about that; I came here with the ambition to play and showcase my abilities. Playing three matches is great. I’m happy to be playing and putting in good performances.
How would you sum it up?
I think it went well. I played well, both individually and as part of the team. It’s a shame we didn’t beat France, but they were three good matches. I enjoyed myself and played well.
Godts: “We’re here to take the three points.”
Speaking to beIN SPORTS:
What is the ambition against France?
High ambition. We’re playing well; we’ve had three good matches. It’s a shame we didn’t beat France. We’re here to take the three points.
Does the coach give you freedom or require tactical discipline?
He always tells me to play freely, go for my dribbles, and stay relaxed. Of course, there is some advice—especially regarding defense—which is only natural.
