This Tuesday, during the third matchday of the 2026-2027 Champions League league phase, Paris Saint-Germain faced FC Barcelona at the Parc des Princes. Paris defender Lucas Hernandez spoke to Canal+ following the 4-2 victory for the Parisian side.
Hernandez: “Tonight, it paid off.”
Doué was named Man of the Match—is that a scandal? (laughs)
No, he deserves it; he truly deserves it. He’s an extraordinary player, and he showed that on the pitch today. It wasn’t an easy match, but by the end, we earned the result we saw on the field.
How did you find out you were starting? That must have been an incredible amount of pressure, right?
No, it was just like any other day—before every match, the coach gives his team talk, and that’s when he told me I’d be starting. I always try to give my absolute best on the pitch. Some nights are better than others, but I’ve never lost that desire to give everything I have—and tonight, it paid off.
Hernandez: “Showing what kind of team we are”
You managed to contain Yamal and helped get PSG back on track?
Yes—I’m not usually one to score many goals, but tonight I was lucky enough to score from that corner kick. As we know, it’s still just a league-phase match, though it was a very important one to show what kind of team we are. Tonight, we demonstrated that we have a fantastic squad, but it’s still only one match in the league phase. We have to keep going. Are you always ready, regardless of your playing time?
Yes, of course—just as I’ve always been. Sometimes you feel better than at other times, but my goal is to give everything I have on the pitch, and that’s what I’ll continue to do here in Paris.
