This Tuesday, during the third matchday of the 2026-2027 Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain faced FC Barcelona at the Parc des Princes. Following a strong performance, the Rouge et Bleu secured a 4-2 victory. Here are our player ratings for the Parisians.
Goalkeeper –
Matvey Safonov (6.5/10) – Made decisive saves against Raphinha and later Fermín, doing his part to prevent Barcelona’s chances from turning into goals. Regarding the two goals conceded, it felt as though he could have done better.
Defenders –
Achraf Hakimi (6/10) – Involved in the opposition box during a triple chance for PSG, though he was caught out by Raphinha during a transition, requiring intervention from Hernandez. His assist capped off a somewhat mixed performance, but he never gave up.
Marquinhos (6/10) – Showed valuable positioning to cut off Gordon’s run, even if the Parisian defense left a few too many gaps. At times, he seemed to lack a bit of a response, but he fought hard. Replaced in the 59th minute by Illia Zabarnyi.
Willian Pacho (7/10) – Produced an important interception against Raphinha and a headed clearance to deny Fermín—a play that resulted in him taking a blow to the face, perfectly encapsulating his level of commitment.
Lucas Hernandez (8/10) – Delivered several vital defensive interventions, showed authority against Yamal, and consistently bailed out his teammates; a commanding first-half performance. Replaced in the 78th minute by Warren Zaïre-Emery, who had barely entered the pitch when Yamal got the better of him to score. Midfielders –
Vitinha (8/10) – Produced a vital interception inside his own penalty area and a superb long ball to Neves; his influence could have benefited from better collective control, however. Tireless after the break, he was constantly on the move to offer an option and keep the Parisian attack flowing, ultimately rewarding his immense expenditure of energy with a goal in the 80th minute.
João Neves (7.5/10) – His headed layoff for Torres could well have resulted in a goal—a valuable offensive contribution in a tightly contested midfield battle. He delivered a strong, understated performance; while his work is difficult to quantify, it is nonetheless invaluable.
Fabian Ruiz (8/10) – Useful in tracking back and capable of initiating play under pressure, though less precise near the final third—notably squandering a pass intended for Hakimi. Regardless, he put in a great shift in midfield, as is his custom, placing all his tactical intelligence at the team’s disposal. His goal was a fitting reward for a match in which he spared no effort.
Forwards –
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (5.5/10) – Struck the post during a sequence that was ultimately flagged for offside, and later fired a shot straight at the goalkeeper. He posed a threat in flashes, but lacked that decisive moment to tip the scales. He left the pitch injured—hopefully, it is nothing too serious. Replaced in the 59th minute by Maghnes Akliouche.
Ousmane Dembélé (5/10) – Managed an early shot on target and showed some promising intent before a thigh injury cut his match short in the 19th minute. Replaced by Ferran Torres (5) – Could have scored quite early on; he struggled with his finishing in front of goal, though his movement remained consistently intelligent.
Désiré Doué (8/10) – While there were some misplaced passes, his incisive, attacking play created opportunities—most notably his strike, which broke the deadlock. Replaced in the 78th minute by Senny Mayulu.
Manager –
Luis Enrique (8/10) – The decision to field Hernandez paid off, and Paris generated several clear-cut chances; however, the opportunities conceded at the other end mean the first half cannot be described as entirely controlled. Despite being hampered by injuries, he once again demonstrated that his side is nearly impenetrable in the Champions League.
