Mika Godts, a 21-year-old forward for Paris Saint-Germain, stopped in the mixed zone following PSG’s 2-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais this Sunday at the Parc des Princes, as part of the 8th matchday of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season.
Godts: “I also wanted to help the team”
A goal and an assist—was it an incredible feeling?
Yes, it’s great to come on, provide an assist, and score as well. I really wanted to help the team. We needed to try and win this match.
Will this first goal help you break through?
Perhaps, yes. I’m staying calm; I try to work hard every day, and whenever the coach needs me, I’m there to put in the effort and help the team.
We know the team is what matters most, but how did it feel to score that goal?
I’m happy. As a forward, you want to help the team by scoring goals. So, I was very pleased—but, as I always say, the priority is to help the team and secure the three points, which is exactly what we did.
Godts: “We did it as a team; it was excellent”
Finally in first place—was that a goal you’ve all been keeping in the back of your minds?
Yes, it’s important; it’s where we belong. We were happy to win this match because it put us in first place. We did it as a team—it was excellent.
So, the goal now is to hold onto that top spot?
Exactly—that’s the objective. We’re going to do everything we can to stay in first place.
Godts: “We were there to win for them”
There were a lot of injuries last week—how was that felt in the dressing room?
Yes, it’s a shame. We talked about it a lot; we were thinking of Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane, and all the other players who were injured. We wanted to win for them—especially for “Kvara.”
Does scoring here at the Parc des Princes feel extra special?
Yes—scoring in such a big stadium, I’m really happy.
Godts: “I try to work hard and take my chances”
How are you settling in at PSG?
Very well. They help me a lot, both on and off the pitch. I just try to work hard and take my chances whenever they come along.
What—or who—did you think of when you scored your first goal?
I was so happy, and then I thought of my family and my wife. They mean so much to me; it’s thanks to them that I’m able to work hard every single day.
Are you going to be a father soon?
Yes!
