Having arrived in 2021 from Sporting Portugal, Nuno Mendes has quickly shown that he has great qualities. Unsurprisingly, Paris Saint-Germain wanted to secure the future of the 22-year-old left-back by extending his contract (which expires in 2026). According to I Paper, it’s not looking good, as his agent has increased the demand and the player is thinking of Manchester United with his former coach at Sporting Portugal, Ruben Amorim.

A deal is far from done, however, as the Premier League giants have very little money to spend in the January transfer window, or even next summer.
All is not lost, however. Bids for the majority of struggling players are said to be under consideration, allowing under-performing stars to leave on loan with their wages, or part of them, taken care of.
United are struggling to find suitors for several of their top performers – Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Antony – but loan deals could free up cash, in PSR’s eyes.
The French champions were on the verge of agreeing a new contract that would make the 22-year-old one of the “highest-paid full-backs in world soccer”, according to sources, before his agent upped his demands and started making advances to United.”
Mind you, these are still just rumours, with no official confirmation whatsoever. We’ve already seen the media take advantage of a link between a coach and a former player, or an agent put pressure on negotiations. Here, there may be a bit of both.
There’s also a somewhat vague rumour, with a lack of money on the Manchester United side, but which may be resolved with offers received, except that suitors are in fact missing, but that’ll do. It’s hard to know how much money there would be for such a transfer. Not to mention that the agreement with PSG has not even been mentioned.
The latter can still work on a contract extension, even if there’s obviously a hitch. Let’s wait and see what happens.
