The National Basketball Association (NBA), one of the world’s leading basketball leagues, has approached Qatar Sport Investisment (QSI) with a view to launching a franchise in Paris. The idea is to create a European league, including a PSG team. To achieve this, a club buyout or the creation of a team could be on the cards, according to Le Parisien. Abdellah Boulma assures us that an NBA press conference is scheduled for Friday to discuss the subject.
The NBA has contacted QSI, shareholder of PSG, to launch a franchise in Paris
Leaders of the North American basketball league want to create a league in Europe in the short term… with a team in Paris.
Several options have reportedly been proposed to QSI:
- Either an outright takeover of an existing Parisian – or Ile-de-France – team,
- Or the creation of a new team, independent of PSG, in partnership with other players.
The Spanish website “Sportico” recently mentioned the creation of a championship as early as 2026-2027 with a few dozen teams.

“As part of the NBA Europe project, QSI, via PSG, is studying the possibility of setting up a franchise in Paris. An NBA press conference is scheduled for Friday to present the contours of this new league.”
We’re talking about one of the best sports leagues in the world. The NBA is the world’s premier basketball league, and to see them team up with QSI in Europe to create a league is highly appealing. Basketball in Europe is interesting, but we’re a long way from what the NBA is capable of generating. We’ll have to wait and see what happens at the press conference, but once again, Paris could come out on top with such a deal.
