Napoli coach Antonio Conte was asked in a press conference about Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s departure for Paris Saint-Germain during the winter mercato. Although he was positive about the 23-year-old striker, he was critical of him and his agents.
Conte “he’s a good lad”.
“I wish him and his family the best, he’s made his choice. I was sad to learn that his agents had been negotiating with PSG for so long. Honestly, I didn’t find it elegant. But we wish him all the best, because he’s a good lad. We’re moving forward. Everyone is useful, but no one is indispensable.”
The Italian coach is not dismissing Kvaratskhelia’s positivity, but it’s understandable that he’s having a bit of trouble digesting the situation. The player and his entourage had been making progress with PSG for some time, while Napoli still seemed to believe in a contract extension.
It has to be said for the Georgian international that his desire to join PSG as early as last summer seemed relatively clear. In any case, the page has now been turned and the striker must make the most of this new adventure.
