This Friday, as part of Matchday 14 of Ligue 1 2024-2025, Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Auxerre (8th) at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps (kick-off 9pm, broadcast on DAZN in France). Jérémie Pignard (43) has been chosen to referee the match. He has extensive experience in Ligue 1, with 90 matches to his name.
He will be assisted by Laurent Coniglio and Steven Torregrossa. Valentin Giorgetti will act as 4th referee. Video assistance will be provided by Benoît Millot and Julien Schmitt.
Yellow cards –
With Mr. Pignard at the whistle, we can expect yellow cards to be handed out very quickly during the match. Indeed, while the national average per match is 3.53 (standard deviation 0.39), Friday’s referee has given an average of 4.01 yellows per match throughout his career in Ligue 1 (Transfermarkt figures). That’s very high, so let’s hope the dialogue isn’t forgotten. At the very least, players should be protected.
Direct red cards –
The man on the whistle this Friday is rather harsh on direct exclusions, as he has a slightly elevated tendency when it comes to handing out direct red cards. In fact, Pignard has handed out 0.18 exclusions per match in his career, whereas the national average per match is 0.17 (standard deviation 0.07). The players will have to behave themselves.
Second yellow cards –
Jérémie Pignard is also in the habit of sending off a player after his first yellow card in a match, as he has given the same player a second caution an average of 0.15 times per match. This is well above the national average of 0.09 (standard deviation 0.03). He’s simply one of the toughest referees in the league.
Penalties –
Finally, when it comes to penalties, the man at the whistle on Friday is even higher than the average, with 0.40 penalties whistled per match, compared with an average of 0.34 in Ligue 1 (standard deviation 0.08).
