Eliesse Ben Seghir, AS Monaco’s 19-year-old attacking midfielder, spoke to L’Equipe in an interview published this Wednesday. In particular, he was asked to talk about the race for the title with Paris Saint-Germain, and had some strong words to say.
Ben Seghir “ I don’t see any team superior to us”.
“You play alongside Paris-SG players in the national team, like Achraf Hakimi with Morocco. Do you talk about the title race between you?
They think they’ll beat us easily. We’ll see… Achraf is a good guy, a sort of big brother to me. He’s a source of motivation and an example.
Let’s put the question another way: which team is superior to Monaco in Ligue 1? Is Paris-SG?
I don’t see any team superior to us. Maybe at the same level, but not superior. When we play the soccer we know how to play and apply the coach’s instructions, we’re a formidable team.”
Ben Seghir and his team-mates are clearly confident. Understandably so, as they have a fine squad and are only 3 points behind PSG, who may not be untouchable.
In any case, it would be sad to see a Monegasque player claim that it’s all doom and gloom. We expected ASM to be a real contender, and the start of the season has confirmed that. We hope they continue on this path, because the title is more interesting with a real race. It’s positive for PSG and Ligue 1. Now it’s up to the Parisians to work hard and come out on top, despite a tough opponent.
