Zoumana Camara, former Paris Saint-Germain U19 player and coach, spoke to L’Equipe about 18-year-old full-back Yoram Zague, whom he knew well with the Paris club’s youth team. He assured us that his former protégé was very serious and could adapt to 4- or 5-man defenses in a piston role. He also spoke of the areas for improvement.
Camara “He’s a very serious player who will continue to develop”.
“He’s a very attacking full-back with a high volume of play. We put him in a piston role, which suits his qualities, but he’s perfectly capable of playing as a full-back in a four-man defense.
He’ll still have to improve his defensive principles, his coverage, his ability to read trajectories and the quality of his crosses, but he’s a very serious player who will continue to develop.”
Zague has the confidence of Luis Enrique to play a few games this season, but it’s also clear that he’s not the regular number 2 in the position. The fact that Luis Enrique prefers 18-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery to him is a sure sign that the Parisian pocket-back still has some way to go.
However, he’s still here, and the coach wants him, so we can only hope that he can complete his training quickly enough to help the team this season and beyond.
