Zoumana Camara, former Paris Saint-Germain U19 player and coach, spoke to L’Equipe about 18-year-old midfielder Senny Mayulu, whom he got to know well with the Paris club’s youth team. He explains that the player has a great “mental attitude” and is very “versatile”. He sees him more as a winger who combines, and less as an out-and-out winger.
Camara “Senny knows where he wants to go”.
“He has a very high-level mindset. Senny knows where he wants to go. His versatility is an asset. He can be integrated into a pair of two 6s, play as a relay player or on one side. He’s a lad who needs to be brought close to the goal, because he’s got a good shot and a feel for it.
In terms of how he’s used, if you expect him to be an out-and-out winger like Dembélé or Barcola, no, but with a full-back like Nuno Mendes, for example, he can very well be an inside winger.”
A fine tribute from a strong personality who came through PSG. Camara has seen youngsters come and go, and has helped many of them to develop.
Mayulu is an exception, he has great qualities, we understand that. The transition from U19 to professional level is never easy, but Mayulu seems to have a good head on his shoulders, aware of his strengths and weaknesses.
With Luis Enrique, he has the perfect framework in which to grow, little by little. He doesn’t seem to be in a hurry, and it’s good that he’s giving himself time to progress.
