This week saw the return semi-finals of the Champions League 2024-2025. UEFA then organized a series of fan votes. Paris Saint-Germain, who beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday (3-1 on aggregate), have 4 players selected in this week’s team of the week.
Marquinhos (30-year-old central defender and capital), Achraf Hakimi (26-year-old right-back), Fabian Ruiz (29-year-old midfielder) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (24-year-old striker) are fine choices for this standard team, even if the former is a little culpable for the goal conceded. But nobody was perfect, and it would be unfair to single out just one miss.
The Brazilian defender also made a number of good interventions, while Hakimi and Ruiz scored with fine strikes. Kvaratskhelia was not “decisive”, but his defensive efforts were invaluable, in addition to some fine attacking creations.
Other players could perhaps have been present, notably João Neves (20-year-old midfielder) or Gianluigi Donnarumma (26-year-old goalkeeper). But there is, logically, a huge amount of competition in these semi-finals.
