This Tuesday evening at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, USL Dunkerque hosted Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France. The Parisians were stunned in the first half, being outscored 2-0, before coming back to beat the northern club 2-4 (video highlights Dunkerque/PSG). Dunkerque defender Vincent Sasso spoke to beIN SPORTS about his disappointment:
Sasso: “Today we came up against something stronger than ourselves”.
How does it feel?
There’s frustration. There’s disappointment because we’re competitors. When you come from behind, especially against PSG, you hope for more. We came up against something stronger than us.
Did you have a big game?
Yes, we had a great game and we stuck together. We knew that if we played high up the pitch like we did in the league, we’d suffer, so we tried to reduce the space as much as possible, and that was the key for us. We did that for 40 minutes.
The goal hurt psychologically. At this level, you pay for a bad decision straight away. It’s immediately more difficult. Today we came up against something stronger than us.
Wasn’t there a corner on PSG’s second goal?
I think we have to be clear-headed and support the referees because it’s hard for them. Things happen quickly, there’s contact and obviously it’s against us and that pisses us off. That’s soccer and PSG were superior throughout the match. That’s just the way it is.
It’s always frustrating when you see that a decision isn’t in your favor. After that, you have to concentrate quickly. You’ve got to get your head back in the game because we’ve got half an hour to go. You have to move on quickly.
