Fabián Ruiz left the Spain squad this Saturday to return to Paris. As reported by Le Parisien, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder was granted permission to travel to the capital to be present for the birth of his first child. Consequently, he missed the Nations League match against the Czech Republic and is a doubt for the game against Croatia on Tuesday.
Returning to Paris for the birth of his first child
“Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabián Ruiz left the La Roja camp this Saturday to travel to Paris and attend the birth of his first child, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced. The 30-year-old player will therefore miss the Nations League match against the Czech Republic, scheduled for this evening in Oviedo (8:45 PM).
The RFEF did not mention a potential return, with a final match to be played on Tuesday in Split, Croatia, to conclude this international break.”
From a sporting perspective, this absence is not a cause for concern for PSG. During an international break where clubs primarily hope to get their players back without any injury setbacks, Ruiz’s departure is due to a happy personal event. He will not be with Spain against the Czech Republic, but there is no indication yet that his international break is over for good.
That is precisely the one detail to watch from a Parisian perspective. The Spanish Federation has not stated whether Ruiz will subsequently rejoin his teammates for the trip to Croatia. If he remains in Paris, Luis Enrique will effectively get his midfielder back sooner than expected, even though this early return was obviously not decided based on sporting considerations. For Ruiz, the focus is elsewhere: he is about to become a father for the first time.
