As part of the first matchday of the 2026 World Cup, the French national team faced Senegal at MetLife Stadium on Tuesday and won 3-1. Six Paris Saint-Germain players were involved in the match: five for France (Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, and Ousmane Dembélé) and one for Senegal (Ibrahim Mbaye). Here are the French players’ player ratings from the press.
Le Parisien:
Mbappé (8)
Doué (4,5) – Olise (7) – Dembélé (4)
Rabiot (6,5) – Tchouaméni (5,5)
T. Hernandez (4) – Saliba (6) – Upamecano (7) – Koundé (5)
Maignan (4)
L’Equipe:
Mbappé (8)
Doué (5) – Olise (7) – Dembélé (4)
Rabiot (6) – Tchouaméni (5)
T. Hernandez (4) – Saliba (6) – Upamecano (7) – Koundé (5)
Maignan (3)
The ratings seem quite logical for a mixed performance from Les Bleus. Some shone, like Mbappé, Olise, and Upamecano, but others struggled more. This includes Doué and Dembélé, although the ratings seem a bit harsh, especially for Doué, who posed a threat.
We also saw the full-backs struggle against Senegal’s pace, failing to contribute offensively. There’s still work to be done, even if the attacking firepower is very encouraging. This is particularly evident in Olise’s quality playmaking through the middle, after starting on the right, and Mbappé’s delivery, which ultimately secured the victory for Les Bleus. Bradley Barcola also made an interesting and decisive impact after coming on as a substitute.
