Marie Antoinette Katoto, 25-year-old striker for Paris Saint-Germain’s women’s team, spoke to Agence France Presse (AFP). She spoke of a “heavy” atmosphere and the Red and Blue’s complicated start to the season. She also spoke of her relationship with coach Fabrice Abriel and gave an indication of her future.
Katoto “We need to get to the bottom of it and say things to each other”.
“It’s heavy, the atmosphere is heavy, we need to dig out the abscess and say things to each other. The season got off to a very bad start and there were some misunderstandings during the mercato. We have to accept certain departures and move forward. We can’t stay in this in-between situation: either we all pull together and go to war together, or we continue to cry and we’ll have a very long season.
Katoto “He’s a good coach who knows soccer well”.
The Abriel/Geyoro clash?
What happens between them is none of my business.
How are things with Abriel?
I’m here to train and play. He’s a good coach who knows soccer well, he’s a former professional player, he knows what he wants to set up, he knows what he’s doing.
Katoto « Ma décision est déjà prise et elle ne changera pas »
The Champions League defeat to Juventus.
We bounced back well, and I’m very happy and proud, because it really wasn’t easy to get back on track after this kind of setback, which happened very early on.
Her future
My decision is already made and it won’t change.
Are there any negotiations with PSG?
No
Towards a departure?
We’ll see.
PSG’s women’s section is not in good spirits. For several years now, nothing has been going right. The team is losing its best players, there’s the Kheira Hamraoui affair, results are declining, there’s been a succession of coaches. The only thing that remains is a poisonous climate, and the Katoto interview and Geyoro tackle don’t help to calm things down.
You can sense that this team is struggling to rebuild, that something is not right. The PSG management need to make some decisions, move forward and start putting some stability into this team.
Katoto will certainly be leaving PSG, even if she doesn’t say so, we can almost understand that it will be her choice and that it’s already been made. Let’s hope this team gets back on its feet and goes in search of good results this season.
