Layvin Kurzawa, the 32-year-old left-back who signed for Boavista in February, spoke to Le Parisien newspaper in an interview published this Friday. The former Paris Saint-Germain player (2015-2024) responded to criticism of the end of his Parisian adventure. He also spoke about the Champions League final against Inter Milan on May 31 in Munich.
Kurzawa “In joining Boavista, I didn’t focus on the financial aspect.”
Were you considered a player who thinks more about his salary than soccer?
It hurt me to hear those comments. But these people don’t read my mind. If they think I was happy just to earn my salary, that’s not true.
I’d like to say to those people that it’s soccer that interests me. When I joined Boavista, I didn’t focus on the financial aspect. Just the pleasure of playing again.
Kurzawa “that’s the lot of sportsmen.”
Caricatured between lifestyle, injuries and inconsistency ?
It’s also the price you pay when you sign for PSG, a high-profile club. At Boavista, if I dress a certain way, no one’s going to remark on it. As for injuries and inconsistency, that’s the lot of sportsmen and women. Nothing is ever linear. Maybe I’m a little more fragile than others.
In the end, the former French national team full-back was very cautious in his comments. He almost avoids the real subject. The player doesn’t mention his choices at PSG when his playing time was clearly limited and he had other offers. In the end, he opted to sign for Boavista at the end of his contract.
Perhaps he had other options financially, but above all he seems to be a little forgotten in top-level soccer. We’d like to see him explain himself a little more. The same goes for inconsistency. Even if injuries and irregularity can indeed be part of a sportsman’s life. Kurzawa had enormous potential, which was lost at some point. Perhaps there’s a more precise explanation. Too bad.
Kurzawa “I want to hear him breathe a sigh of relief and see smiles on everyone’s faces.”
“I hope so 1000% (for a PSG victory in the final). After spending almost ten years at this club, where I’ve experienced both the highs and the lows, I want to hear it breathe a sigh of relief and see smiles on everyone’s faces. Those of PSG lovers, Parisians, managers and all the people who work at the club.
What do you remember about your 9 years with PSG?
I became the father of two little girls in this magnificent city. These are unique moments. My love for PSG was sincere. The people who can work with me at the club or in Paris, those who really know me, will remember me most of all.”
Kurzawa may not have particularly improved his image, but at least we can appreciate his sincere love for PSG. He is focusing on the positive, and is hoping for a victory that would bring immense joy to the whole club, a whole city and, above all, many people around the world. All we can do now is hope, and trust the staff and players to work as hard as they can. Even if there can be no guarantee of victory. Our opponents also have their arguments and great determination.
