This Monday, after the 34th and final matchday played on Saturday evening, L’Equipe unveiled its standard team for the 2024-2025 season, based on the average marks given to each match. Paris Saint-Germain are the logical choice, but only 3 players: Marquinhos (31-year-old defender), Achraf Hakimi (26-year-old right-back) and Ousmane Dembélé (28-year-old striker). As well as coach Luis Enrique. PSG also achieved the highest team average.
We can probably debate for hours on end about the place of each individual, but there are certain limits to grades, and even more so to averages. Not least because grades depend on everyone’s expectations. For the player, given his qualities, and for the team as a whole. The observer may be far from seeing everything, let alone what the coach expects.
We also see a PSG that is often impressive, with a team average that doesn’t reach 6. A Willian Pacho (23-year-old defender) or midfielders (Vitinha, João Neves and Fabian Ruiz) absent despite clear domination. The team chosen for the UNFP Trophies was logically more Parisian. But it’s good to see some Ligue 1 players who have been fairly consistent.
Last but not least, Luis Enrique still managed to place himself in this eleven, despite the many criticisms he received over the winter. It seems that a little patience never hurts.
