PSG didn’t exactly shine against Paris FC, but they secured the essentials with a 2-1 victory. The match unfolded at a rather unusual pace; PSG seemed to focus on possession in the second half rather than really trying to create chances when they had opportunities. There were still a few opportunities, almost all of which went unfinished.
Lens, in fact, got off to a great start in 2026 with a comfortable 3-0 win in Toulouse. The red card shown to Toulouse in the 23rd minute undoubtedly helped, especially since all the goals were scored in the second half.
And sending-offs were a major theme of the weekend: Monaco confirmed their problems and put themselves in further difficulty, this time with a red card in the 70th minute when the score was 1-2. European qualification slips further away, while Lyon closes the gap and can now realistically hope for a place.
Lille also received an early red card, in the 14th minute, in their 0-2 defeat against Rennes, who continue their impressive climb in the race for European qualification. They also benefited from a certain degree of success (11 shots to 14, 3 on target for each side, 57% possession).
Olympique de Marseille also made things difficult for themselves and went all out: red cards in the 26th (0-0) and 56th (0-1) minutes for a 0-2 defeat against a Nantes side that, despite everything, put in a mixed performance. But the points will be crucial in the relegation battle, as OM suffer a significant setback.
The Nice/Strasbourg match was played without a red card and with a minor upset for Nice. Despite a critical period with 16 players unavailable, Claude Puel managed to field a strong team, which will be a welcome boost. Meanwhile, Strasbourg, unsettled by the potential departure of their coach to Chelsea, are struggling and risk paying the price later on.
In the relegation battle, Brest and Le Havre secured crucial points against Auxerre and Angers, while Lorient and Metz were left with draws that left much to be desired.
