With 23 shots to Lyon’s 6, PSG largely dominated. But they also experienced one of those nights when finishing just wasn’t on their side. Meanwhile, Lyon were clinical. That’s football, it happens. Even if it’s very frustrating. Unfortunately, the win was necessary.

Indeed, Lens and Toulouse played one of the weekend’s standout matches right from the start with a memorable 3-2 victory. Toulouse quickly took a 2-0 lead, then received a red card before the 20th minute. This sparked a Lens siege with 51 crosses and 41 shots, enough to break down a TFC side that perhaps gave up too soon.

Beyond that, the race for European qualification slowed down somewhat. Lille drew 0-0, ending a good run and allowing Nice some breathing room in their fight for survival. Lorient have already secured their place in the league, but still put in a tremendous effort to defeat an OM side still teetering on the brink of missing out on Champions League qualification and facing a crisis.

In another disappointing result, Monaco conceded a surprising draw at home after a hard-fought match. This result is a blow to their European ambitions, even if Monaco still have a chance to make a difference. Things could change very quickly. Rennes nevertheless took advantage of the situation to move into 5th place with a very impressive victory against a Strasbourg side perhaps fatigued by European competition. In any case, qualification via Ligue 1 now seems a distant prospect, and their postponed match against Brest will be crucial.

It’s worth noting that Auxerre’s draw in Monaco is a significant blow to their survival hopes. Nantes couldn’t recover enough to secure the relegation playoff spot, and the clubs ahead remain within striking distance of the last four matchdays. This is no longer the case for Paris FC, who secured their survival by pushing Metz to the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, Nantes must continue to fight despite the immense disappointment of conceding an equalizer in the final minute after dominating possession and receiving a red card in the 65th minute. A reaction against Paris on Wednesday will be no easy task.

Finally, Le Havre continues its slow progress and sees relegation still a real threat, particularly through the playoffs. We’ll still need to pick up some points to catch our breath.
