Paris Saint-Germain will face Aston Villa in the quarter-finals of the Champions League 2024-2025 on April 9 and 15. It has tried to move the trip to Nantes scheduled between the two to the weekend of Saturday April 12 as part of Ligue 1 matchday 29, but the Nantes club has objected, according to Ouest-France.
“The club from the capital has asked for the match against FC Nantes to be postponed, proposing that it be played during the week, on April 22 or 23. This change does not please the Nantes club, which will express its refusal to the board of directors of the Ligue de Football Professionnel.
FC Nantes, in its fight to stay in the top flight, would then be forced to go a fortnight without playing before playing three matches in the space of a week (Rennes, PSG and Toulouse). Travelling during the week would also complicate fan organization.”
We remain cautious, even if it’s safe to assume that the newspaper wouldn’t have taken the plunge at random. PSG may well have tried to get this little moment of rest, even if we have to accept that playing in the Champions League means there are a lot of games. Especially as Paris has a large lead in Ligue 1.
We’ll have to work with the calendar and the strength of the squad to manage this period. The Parisians have what it takes to get through and reach the semi-finals (April 29-30 and May 6-7).
