Paris Saint-Germain won on penalties (1-1 on aggregate, then 1-4 on penalties) against Liverpool (Liverpool/PSG video highlights) this Tuesday at Anfield in the second leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 Round of 16. Parisian president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi spoke to FIFA.com after the match.
Al-Khelaïfi “this qualification is very special for me, for the team, for history.”
Did you deserve to qualify?
We deserved to qualify, yes, in both games. We were confident going into this match, even though we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We couldn’t be sure, but I had this feeling before the game that this was our night.
The best night since you became PSG president?
I could still say it at the next match, but this qualification is certainly very special for me, for the team and for history. Tonight, the players wrote PSG history. After losing 0-1, qualifying here wasn’t easy. I really must congratulate the coach and the players.
Al-Khelaïfi “I thought my heart was going to stop beating.”
The penalty shootout?
I thought my heart was going to stop beating. But I also had the feeling that Gigi could stop them. I know he could make that very important moment. I want to congratulate Donnarumma and all the players, even those who didn’t play. They’re important and they were ready.
