The clash of the Champions League Round of 8 took place this Tuesday evening at Anfield, with Liverpool FC hosting Paris Saint-Germain. It was a breathtaking match for fans of both sides, who had to wait until penalties to see the Red and Blue qualify, thanks to an exceptional Gianluigi Donnarumma (0-1, 1-4 at TaB, Liverpool/PSG video highlights). Reds central defender Virgil van Dijk spoke to Canal+ about their disqualification:
Virgil van Dijk: “Well done to PSG, they were very good in both games”.
You must be very disappointed, but did Liverpool deserve better?
I think when you go to the penalty spot it’s a lottery. Both goalkeepers can stop penalties and Donnarumma is very good at it. If you look at the game, we showed a different side to last week. Well done to PSG, they were very good in both games.
Of course, they have the quality to hurt any opponent. Their forwards are very dangerous and their coach has made them a very good team. I think it was a great game to watch for one supporter or another, but the feeling I have now is one of disappointment. I’m proud of my team-mates for the way they reacted and the way we played in the first half. But well done PSG and good luck.
Are they the best team you’ve met this season?
Their three strikers are perhaps the most dangerous, the most in-form. I think we created some good chances against them, but we didn’t manage to score tonight and they were very good. We were also very good, but well done to them and good luck for the rest of the competition.
