Virgil Van Dijk, the 33-year-old center-back from the Netherlands who is at the end of his contract at Liverpool (which he joined in 2017), has been rumored to be in the sights of Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Foot Mercato assures us that this is not the case, as no link between the club and the player has been established.
“To date, and contrary to rumours in the English press, there is no link between PSG and Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds defender is at the end of his contract, so the rumors abound, but as far as the capital club is concerned, nothing.
PSG now have a central defensive pairing combining experience (Marquinhos) and youth (Beraldo, Pacho). The discussion in the corridors of Anfield had nothing to do with his future.”
All it takes is a chat in a corridor to get everyone excited. However, as we all know, it’s important to take a step back from rumours and announcements. Van Dijk is a great player, but he doesn’t seem to fit in with what Luis Enrique is looking for in his project.
There’s bound to be a defensive reinforcement this summer, but the profile is likely to be quite different and younger. We’ll have to wait and see how the current defense performs over the next few weeks, which will be crucial for the club.
