Véronique Rabiot, mother and agent of midfielder Adrien Rabiot (29), spoke to RMC Sport on Monday evening. As in L’Equipe, she spoke of the insults he suffered at the Parc des Princes on Sunday during Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 victory over Olympique de Marseille. With a few tackles thrown in, of course.
Véronique Rabiot “And yet, it had been agreed.”
“I don’t blame the Paris club at all. We’re not at all vindictive at home, so I don’t blame them at all. But as far as I’m concerned, it’s a fact that everyone’s afraid of PSG. And I think that’s why the game wasn’t stopped on Sunday night.
I think it’s more difficult. But it had been agreed. It had been said that if there were homophobic chants, the match would be interrupted. And there were homophobic chants.
Véronique Rabiot “We don’t expect PSG to apologize.”
A call for support from PSG?
PSG doesn’t apologize. PSG doesn’t apologize and PSG doesn’t need to apologize. Six years ago, they mistreated my son and nobody apologized. We don’t expect PSG to apologize.
Could PSG have known what was being prepared ?
I hope they’re not that cynical. That said, we know very well what happened years ago with fake accounts that insulted Adrien and me.”
The anger is understandable. It’s even understandable, since the messages in the chants and banners were logically unpleasant for Adrien Rabiot and his mother. But this media relentlessness is a little tiresome, compared to the silence when the insults are in other stadiums. And particularly when it comes to PSG.
It’s interesting here to see that the match stoppage was almost expected, as if it was absolutely necessary to strike this time. Why isn’t it “expected” in other stadiums? Is it also due to “fear of PSG”? Or simply because it’s less interesting? In any case, clear, regular and fair action is needed if there is to be any hope of change.
In the meantime, we’ll no doubt have to wait for a few more reactions, particularly from politicians, and see where the Rabiot family’s complaints lead. Not to mention possible action by the Ligue de Football Professionnel.
