Upon arriving at Paris Saint-Germain—having signed his first professional contract after joining from AC Milan on Monday—18-year-old goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni shared his initial thoughts in an interview published on the club’s official website. The young Italian shot-stopper spoke about his happiness, his ambitions, his playing style, and his desire to develop in Paris.
Longoni: “I will do my utmost to live up to this trust”
First of all, I would like to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, QSI sporting advisor Luis Campos, and coach Luis Enrique for the opportunity they have given me, as they believed in me. I will do my utmost to live up to this trust.
When I received the call, I felt immense excitement and great joy. At the same time, I realize that, in a way, this is exactly what I have always wanted: I have always worked hard and was waiting for an opportunity like this, which has fortunately finally arrived. I am very happy and will, of course, continue to work just as I always have.
Longoni: “I’ve always dreamed of this”
It is an opportunity to train alongside an exceptional coaching staff and players at a state-of-the-art sports complex. It’s amazing. I’ve always dreamed of this, though it is a bit overwhelming when the name is so big. But, as I said, this is what I wanted, and it has become a reality.
Longoni: “I am convinced that here, I will have the opportunity to improve”
Paris Saint-Germain is a team that has won two Champions League titles in recent years. We are talking about a major club that is growing rapidly and has made enormous progress over the last 20 years.
The presence of the coaches and players here certainly played a role. I am convinced that here, I will have the opportunity to improve and broaden my horizons as a young man.
Longoni: “I like helping my teammates build play from the back”
I like to describe myself as a goalkeeper who likes to do a bit of everything. I enjoy helping my teammates by coming off my line to cover space. I like helping them build play from the back, and of course, I love making saves—that’s my job.
Longoni: “There is so much to learn”
As for my personality… I think I’m a pretty calm, level-headed, and sensible guy. And I have a constant desire to work hard. I’m really looking forward to it, because we’re talking about one of the best training centers in Europe—if not the world.
So, it’s only a matter of time before I get to train alongside the best players. There is so much to learn in this new adventure at PSG. I’m still young, and I still have a lot to learn both on and off the pitch.
I’m convinced that discovering a different country—with a culture slightly different from our own—will enrich me personally as well. At the same time, on the pitch, we’ll be discussing different training methods, and I hope that helps me improve in many ways. My friends, this is Paris.
