Andrija Maksimovic, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder, was in the sights of Paris Saint-Germain during the mercato before leaving Red Star Belgrade for RB Leipzig. His agent Zoran Stojadinovic explained to Mozzart Sport what PSG had planned and what made the difference.
“It’s up to you to judge whether it would be a good choice.”
“PSG sent a similar offer to Leipzig. However, they had a different plan: to send Andrija on a one-year loan to Braga. You know how they play in Portugal, how many South Americans there are there, what kind of soccer it is. It’s up to you to judge whether it would be a good choice.
On the other hand, he has spoken with the coach of Leipzig, a club that wants to develop the player. We hardly had any doubts. They were there from the start.”
So PSG were well on the way, and this time the rumours were right. But Maksimovic, or at least his agent, clearly didn’t like the Parisian plan. He doesn’t say so directly, of course. But it’s clear that a move to Portugal was not a good idea.
At least, far from that of signing for Leipzig with the hope of playing there straight away. That’s understandably attractive. That doesn’t mean it was the best option for the future. Except that there’s no guarantee that a move to PSG will be a success, and neither is a loan. You can never be sure, and Maksimovic has made his choice.
