Marquinhos, Paris Saint-Germain’s 31-year-old emblematic defender, spoke to FIFA’s website about the next major international competition, the Club World Cup. He shares his enthusiasm for this unprecedented challenge, and reaffirms PSG’s ambition to rank among the world’s top clubs. He also praised his coach, Luis Enrique.
Marquinhos “It’s going to be very interesting, because there are going to be some of the biggest clubs in the world”.
“It’s going to be a new experience for us, as it is for all the other teams involved. It’s going to be very interesting, because the biggest clubs in the world are going to be there, and we’ll be playing against opponents we’re not used to meeting. In every competition, PSG’s ambition is to be among the best. We know that the road will be long and difficult, but we’re really looking forward to discovering what this kind of competition can be like.
“PSG’s objective is always very high. I think the club has already demonstrated its strength and philosophy. In all competitions, our team fights to be among the best and to win the title. But as I said, it’s always hard work. It’s a big club, and one that never stops growing. We want to show our DNA and our desire on the pitch to win over more and more fans.”
Marquinhos “He’s a very demanding person”.
Luis Enrique
There’s no doubt about it, he’s one of the best coaches in the world. He demonstrates this every day with all his players. He’s a very demanding man, who is very clear with his players and always brings something extra to the table.
At every match, he directs us to perfection, giving us the benefit of everything he’s learned over the years. I think that’s what makes him such a great coach. His philosophy, his high standards, his experience.”
Marquinhos could leave, so these last games (of the finals) are very important. Maybe he’ll stay, but in any case, these last few games are a credit to the player. He deserves to win the Champions League, and the Club World Cup also comes at just the right time, when PSG are in top form and ready for more intense games than the others.
Luis Enrique makes sure his squad doesn’t fall asleep. Rarely has PSG experienced such an end to the season, and the discovery of a new competition will be even more intense if all goes well. This Saturday against Inter Milan, the Parisians will arrive pumped up. We’re looking forward to the Club World Cup, and to seeing some unusual matches too.
