Having arrived in 2021 from Sporting Portugal, Nuno Mendes has quickly shown that he has great qualities. Unsurprisingly, Paris Saint-Germain were keen to secure the future of the 22-year-old left-back by extending his contract, which expires in 2026. Except that the trend is towards complications. According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United have taken concrete action and other clubs are on the lookout.
“There are contacts between Manchester United and Nuno Mendes’ management. MUFC remain strongly interested in a transfer for the 22-year-old left-back this summer.
However, three other top clubs are also interested in the Portuguese international. A decision is not expected any time soon. Paris Saint-Germain are still keen to extend his contract beyond 2026.”
There’s nothing impossible about it, Nuno Mendes does have the qualities to attract Europe’s biggest clubs if his contract extension is blocked. PSG aren’t going to give up either. And we can’t rule out the possibility, as some have suggested, that these rumours are partly the work of the player’s agent, to put pressure on the negotiations.
Let’s wait and see, then, as there are more than just rumours at the moment. Discussions have yet to take place, but no decision is certain.
