Axel Tape, a 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain-trained defender whose contract expires this summer, has been rumoured to be leaving PSG at the end of the season. However, several media outlets have confirmed that he has signed a 5-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen.
Sky Sport :
RMC Sport :
“Axel Tape will be leaving PSG at the end of the month. He has signed for Bayer Leverkusen. As explained, the German club had been the best positioned for several months. It’s all wrapped up. Medical examination OK. Contract runs until 2030.”
L’Equipe :
“It’s a contract that has been quietly signed over the last few weeks. Axel Tape (17) has signed a five-year contract with Leverkusen. It’s the first professional contract for the PSG-trained central defender.”
It’s a disappointing outcome, even though there has been a hint of hope in recent weeks. Tape got a bit of playing time, and it looked like coach Luis Enrique was going to turn things around.
But the Parisian Titi was clearly determined to leave, no doubt in order to get “easier” playing time. Competition is fierce at PSG, and demands are always at their highest. The German league tends to rely on young talent. Indeed, many of them have left France for this stage.
It remains to be seen whether this will be the case for Tape, as there are never any guarantees either. Too bad, we’d have loved to see him grow up in Paris.squ by 2030.
