Nordi Mukiele, the 27-year-old central defender/lateral midfielder, arrived at Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022, but has failed to make an impact. Hampered by injuries, especially in 2023, and little used by coach Luis Enrique, he has been loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen without an option to buy for the 2024-2025 season, although his contract runs out in June 2027. Le Parisien reports this Friday on the player’s future.
“Nordi Mukiele is preparing to return to Paris, no doubt only to leave again.”
“While the German press spoke of a possible permanent transfer several days ago, the 27-year-old French defender on loan from PSG will not be staying at Bayer Leverkusen.
When he arrived, Leverkusen had not negotiated an option to buy, but in mid-February they were considering the possibility of a deal. This was not to be. According to our information, Nordi Mukiele is preparing to return to Paris, no doubt for a better start.
The Montreuil-born player does not fit into the plans of Luis Enrique and sporting consultant Luis Campos, who have already scoured the market for a new way out. A number of Premier League clubs have come forward with information.”
This is neither impossible nor certain, as it is not a concrete announcement. We simply suspect that Mukiele’s future will not be easy at Bayer Leverkusen. His season hasn’t been bad, but it hasn’t been totally convincing either. Above all, there’s been a change of coach and therefore new plans. There’s no guarantee that the defender is willing to negotiate.
Luis Enrique had clearly ruled him out at PSG, so it’s hard to imagine him returning to the squad. A transfer is clearly the most logical outcome. A move to the Premier League is not impossible. It’s a league that could suit Mukiele. However, we’ll have to wait and see. The mercato has only just begun to take shape, and we’re still sailing in a blur.
