Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s 28-year-old midfielder/attacker under contract until 2026, has been struggling of late and has been rather sidelined by coach Luis Enrique. So the idea of a mercato departure is taking hold. Foot Mercato reports on Tuesday that a major Italian club is ready to make a move. Other clubs are also thinking about the Spaniard.
Negotiations to begin soon?
“According to our information, Marco Asensio is on Juventus’ table this winter. Indeed, while the winter priority remains to find a central defender to compensate for Gleison Bremer’s serious injury, the Turin management, led by Cristiano Giuntoli, also want to strengthen their attacking lines.
Marco Asensio’s versatile attacking profile appeals to Thiago Motta and is attracting a lot of interest. The Bianconeri are determined to take action in the early days of the mercato. A loan deal with an option to buy, to be negotiated with Paris Saint-Germain, would be Juventus’ preferred option.”
Great competition for Asensio?
According to our indiscretions, Inter Milan, who have taken a back seat on the dossier, have also shown an interest in recent weeks. Unnamed La Liga clubs have also been interested in Marco Asensio.
The key point in the negotiations between PSG and the suitors will be to reach an agreement on the payment of part of the player’s wages. The Palma de Mallorca native earns an annual salary of around €10 million gross.”
We remain cautious, as there is nothing concrete and therefore not the slightest certainty. But it’s conceivable that Juventus, in particular, will try their luck for Asensio. The fact that he wasn’t in the squad just before the summer break, and after little game time in previous matches, was a strong sign.
PSG won’t necessarily part with him easily, but a negotiation at least seems possible. It all depends on the player’s willingness, who probably doesn’t want to end up on the sidelines, and on Paris’ possibilities.
A departure is far from a foregone conclusion, as the calendar is so full and the mercato so complicated. Let’s wait and see if any offers are confirmed and if they could be satisfactory. We’ll also need to see if any recruitment is confirmed, as we’re a long way from that at the moment.
