Dani Olmo, Spain’s 26-year-old attacking midfielder/winger, is supposedly under contract at FC Barcelona until 2030 following his transfer last summer from RB Leipzig. But the Catalan club’s financial worries mean that La Liga is currently refusing to sign him after January 2. All the more reason for attempts and rumors. Unsurprisingly, Paris Saint-Germain is involved. AS reports on Friday that PSG are among the clubs ready to jump at the chance if it comes to fruition.
“For the player, his biggest disappointment would be to end his stay at Barcelona prematurely. From a sporting point of view, he would have no trouble finding a top team in Europe who would want him. In the Premier League, he is being targeted by all the big clubs, and PSG and Bayern Munich, who wanted him this summer, are on the lookout.”
No surprise here, since Dani Olmo is a talented player on whom coach Luis Enrique relied when he was Spain coach. With his versatility (he can play as an attacking midfielder, winger or false-nine), the player would undoubtedly fit in very well with the PSG coach’s plans.
However, we can only remain cautious, given the ease with which the rumour is spread. Which doesn’t necessarily make it false, but it’s far from a certainty. The special case in which the player finds himself must attract clubs, with the possible hope of recruiting a player freely in the middle of the season. We also know that the Spanish press likes to involve PSG in its important dossiers.
So we’ll wait before thinking that Paris is fully in the running. Not to mention that it might simply not exist if Barça find a solution, while the player’s agent has stressed that Olmo wants to stay.
