Christopher Nkunku, Chelsea’s 26-year-old attacking midfielder and striker (contract until 2029), has been mentioned as a possible target for his parent club Paris Saint-Germain this winter. At a press conference, Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca reiterated his desire to see the Frenchman stay, although he is aware that his player, potentially unhappy with his playing time, could ask to leave.
“We love ‘Christo’ and we want him here. There will always be players who aren’t happy and some who will ask to leave in January. I don’t know if that will be the case for ‘Christo’ or another player, but we want to keep them here.”
The mercato and its rumours. Nkunku didn’t expect to play so little when he arrived at Chelsea. Maresca’s words are clear: he makes his choices, and until there’s proof to the contrary, he hasn’t put Nkunku at the top of his list.
However, PSG and Luis Enrique are not likely to offer the former titi a protected place either – that’s the new policy. A return is obviously possible, especially as Nkunku has a deep love for the Parisian club. However, seeing him return to Paris remains a rumor for the time being, with no real concrete progress being made, so we must remain cautious.
