Tomás Araújo, Benfica’s 22-year-old central defender under contract until 2028, was announced as one of Paris Saint-Germain’s targets for the end of the 2024 summer mercato. Record now assures us that he is still being targeted, except that his club is taking a firm stance.
It’s easy to believe that Benfica have no intention of letting go of their great defensive talent, who could be one of PSG’s next port of call. But we remain cautious overall. There’s nothing concrete yet, and above all we’ve already seen such rumours (the clause or nothing) that there was finally a negotiation. This was the case for João Neves, the 20-year-old midfielder who arrived in Paris from Benfica last summer.
Nothing is certain. However, we can safely assume that the Parisian club will try to position itself, and that nothing will be easy. Whether this winter or next summer. Not to mention the fact that PSG could concentrate its spending at the winter mercato, if there is any recruitment, on a full-back or a striker, where the shortage seems a little more acute.
