Marcus Rashford, the 27-year-old Manchester United and England striker (contract runs until 2028), has been rumoured to be in the sights of Paris Saint-Germain several times in recent years. These rumours are coming back for the winter mercato, when his club would like to sell him. While Ben Jacobs stressed last March (see here) that the Parisian club would only make an offer if Rashford made it clear that he wanted to leave, the Englishman, who is in a delicate situation at his club, has now clearly announced, relayed by Ben Jacobs, his desire to move on and leave Manchester United.
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.
If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”
Does this mean PSG will make an offer? Things happen between March and December, and it’s not clear that the Parisian board has liked Rashford’s game in recent weeks. We’re a long way from the great Marcus Rashford, scorer, passer and miracle worker. His statistics are very average and his attitude leaves a lot to be desired.
PSG need to think again. Is relaunching Rashford a risk they’re prepared to take? We know that the player won’t be “very expensive”, and will probably be available very soon after his declarations, so the question will arise. We’ve gone from rumor to possibility for the next mercato.
