As part of Matchday 16 of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to face FC Metz this Saturday and won 2-3. Following the match, Luis Enrique, the Parisian club’s coach, spoke to PSG TV about the result.
Enrique: “The last part of the match was very difficult.”
“I think we started the match very well, with control and everything we want to do on the pitch. We scored two goals. I thought the match would have been easier than it was in the second half, but we had to make substitutions out of necessity and we lost control. The last part of the match was very difficult. We won and got the three points, so that’s positive, but it was very complicated.”
Enrique: “They will be a very difficult opponent.”
The Intercontinental Cup?
It’s a very important objective. Unfortunately, we’re going to play against one of the best teams in this competition. They have a very good team; we saw their quality last summer at the Club World Cup. It will be a very close match, with many difficulties because they have quality players, both technically and physically, with experience. They will be a very difficult opponent.
An important victory for PSG, marking the end of the first half of the league season. It’s never easy to win away from home, especially against a club fighting for survival. But the Parisians were able to quickly take the lead, widen the gap, before unfortunately relaxing, fortunately without serious consequences.
The break isn’t coming up just yet for PSG. The Intercontinental Cup final will allow them to face Flamengo again, against whom they lost last July at the Club World Cup. A match they will have to take seriously in order to end the year with another trophy.
