This Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain celebrated their most prized trophy across the city, the Champions League, which they won 5-0 against Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. On the sidelines of the celebrations, Parisian club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi showed his emotion to LCI.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi “Seeing people happy like today is magnificent.”
Do you realize even more the significance of your achievement?
“Honestly, yesterday I was very happy proud, but today it’s a different feeling. It’s difficult, because we’ve worked so hard, 14 years for this. It hasn’t been easy at all. Seeing people happy like today is wonderful.”
It’s a dream come true, as you announced back in 2011 when you first arrived?
“It’s true, this year has been very special. If we’d won it before, it wouldn’t have been like this. With everything we’d done in previous years, it was very important for Paris, for French soccer. Today, we’re not talking about Paris Saint-Germain, we’re talking about France. We’ve got the French flag on our shirt and we’re proud of that.
Yesterday I slept with the trophy, because I said to myself, I just woke up and it was just a dream.”
The PSG chairman, who has fought wind and tide to get to this point, is understandably very emotional. History has been sad at times, but it’s magnificent today. Who could have hoped, or simply imagined, this Parisian team reaching the final of the Champions League to win their first trophy by thrashing their opponents 5-0.
PSG have done it, at last and in the most beautiful way. The best thing about this team is that it also feels like the start of a great story, the beginning of a reign that will enable the club to continue writing its history. A history that has already placed the club in the pantheon of French soccer, and which could take it among the legends of world and European soccer.
