Neymar, the 31-year-old Al-Hilal and Brazil striker, spoke to Romario on Youtube in an interview published this Friday. In particular, he talked about his time at Paris Saint-Germain, including his relationship with striker Kylian Mbappé, which he believes deteriorated for a reason.
Neymar “He didn’t want to share me anymore.”
“Mbappé isn’t boring. I’ve had stuff with him, we’ve argued a bit, but he was fundamental to us when he arrived. I used to call him ‘Golden Boy’. I always played with him, I always said he was going to be one of the best. I always helped him, I talked to him, he came to my house, we ate together.
We had some good years together, but after Messi arrived, he was a bit jealous. He didn’t want to share me anymore. That’s when the fights started. Everything changed!”
Neymar: “You have to know you’re not playing alone”.
PSG’s problem?
Egos. It’s good to have an ego, but you have to know that you’re not playing alone. You need another guy next to you. There were big egos almost everywhere, it can’t work. If nobody runs and nobody helps, it’s impossible to win anything.”
Strong words, which Mbappé is unlikely to appreciate. Not to mention the part about “egos” that seems to concern him. One wonders whether he will respond, with a possible media battle.
In any case, we suspect that some will point out to Neymar that he hasn’t always really played for the team either. Except that, on average, he has mostly helped PSG when he wasn’t injured. Absences remain his biggest failing, and this is partly due to the knocks he took.
Nevertheless, he often defended, especially in the big games. Even if some have succeeded in giving him the image of an individualist, the figures have often shown him to be one of the most prolific runners.
A far cry from Mbappé, undeniably. Indeed, his relationship with Neymar has changed over the years, unfortunately because there was enormous potential there. We’ll leave it to them to perhaps fight over reason.
