The 2025 Trophée des Champions, between Paris Saint-Germain (French champions 2024-2025 and winners of the Coupe de France) and Olympique de Marseille (Ligue 1 runners-up), could not be played this summer (as is traditional, although this has rarely been followed recently) due to PSG’s very busy schedule. A date and venue had to be set for the 2025-2026 season. This was officially announced on Thursday by the LFP:
THE TROPHEE DES CHAMPIONS SCHEDULED FOR 9:00 PM ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 2026 Organized in partnership with the Kuwait Football Association, the match between
PSG, champions of Ligue 1 McDonald’s and winners of the Coupe de France, and
OM, runners-up in Ligue 1 McDonald’s, will kick off at 9:00 PM in Kuwait (7:00 PM French time). Broadcast in numerous countries, the match will be shown live on Ligue 1+ in France.”
The Classico for the Champions Trophy has a very unusual schedule for a French match or for PSG, taking place on a Thursday, a rare occurrence in the calendar. The fact that it’s at 7 pm (CET) in France is unfortunate, as it’s not the most convenient weekday time to watch the game. At least we finally know when the match will be played. It was about time.
