Paris Saint-Germain played out a 2-2 draw against AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night in their Champions League play-off second leg, securing their spot in the last 16 with a 5-4 aggregate win. Man of the Match Désiré Doué spoke to Canal+ after the final whistle, reflecting on a testing night for the capital club while praising his side’s resilience.
Interviewer: You’ve been named Man of the Match and Paris are through, but did you ever fear the game was slipping away from you?
Doué: “Yes, definitely. When they scored late on and then had that final chance, the tension was high and it was a bit of a scare. But overall, we showed great character to fight back after falling behind. We managed to get back level and then take the lead; it was a massive collective effort.”
Interviewer: So it’s that resilience you’re taking away from tonight? Because we’re still looking for that dominant PSG side from last season.
Doué: “Of course, the plan isn’t to go a goal down and have to chase the game. Our objective is to dominate from the start. That said, football has its ups and downs, and you have to know how to dig deep and come from behind, which is exactly what we did today. Going forward, we’ll be looking to keep a clean sheet—that’s going to be vital.”
