Filipe Luis, the coach who arrived at AS Monaco this summer, spoke at a press conference on Sunday evening following the 2-0 victory over Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Louis II. He was notably asked to look ahead to the trip to the Parc des Princes on Friday night to face Paris Saint-Germain (kick-off at 9:05 PM, broadcast on Ligue1+). The Brazilian expressed his admiration for PSG while remaining ambitious.
Filipe Luis: “One of the best in football history.”
“Paris? For now, we need to savor this victory. PSG has the best players in the world and the best coach in the world—one of the best in the history of football. Admittedly, many players joined the squad late during the pre-season, but everyone knows they are the best. However, naturally, I am going to devise a plan to win.”
The Brazilian coach is well-positioned to discuss PSG, having faced them in late 2025 during the Intercontinental Cup while with Flamengo. He lost that match on penalties following a 1-1 draw, though the Parisians had clearly dominated the game. In any case, the football world knows this team well by now; their back-to-back Champions League victories speak for themselves.
While some are already overreacting to the draws against Rennes (2-2) and Lille (2-2), Filipe Luis rightly highlights the team’s immense potential. The players need to regain their rhythm, given that many returned late to training. It remains to be seen if they will be ready for a more complete performance against Monaco.
They are an opponent to be taken very seriously—the only club to have won their first two Ligue 1 matches. They achieved this without conceding a goal (a 1-0 win over Le Havre) and also managed to qualify for the Europa Conference League along the way. Nothing will come easy for PSG, and Filipe Luis is not showing his determination without reason. It is up to the Parisians to find the necessary resources early in the season to ensure a successful first outing at the Parc des Princes this campaign.
