On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain faced Aston Villa at the Parc des Princes in the quarter-finals of the Champions League 2024-2025 (return on March 15). After a match in which the Rouge et Bleu put in a very good performance to win 3-1 (video highlights PSG/Aston Villa). Here are our scores for the Parisians.
Goalkeeper –
Gianluigi Donnarumma (6) – A complicated first half, a ball in the box for Aston Villa, a goal. Couldn’t do much about it. Untroubled in the second half.
Defenders –
Achraf Hakimi (6) – A decent first half. Better in the second, he put a lot of intensity into defending and pressing. This helped him offensively.
Willian Pacho (6) – Not much in the way of trouble, he provided the essentials in the first half. Solid as usual.
Lucas Beraldo (5) – Got caught out in a hurry, but managed quite well. Needs to be a little more aggressive. Better in the second half, but can and should still do better.
Nuno Mendes (6) – Fell back into his old ways with a loss of the ball that shouldn’t happen at this stage of the competition. Otherwise, his match would have been pretty good. He needs to keep an eye on the details. His late goal hurt Aston Villa a lot ahead of the second leg.
Midfield –
Joao Neves (7.5) – Very active in midfield, but a little slow in organizing the game. At his age, what he produces is exceptional. You don’t always see him, but he’s always there, pressing and harassing.
Vitinha (7) – He still doesn’t lose any balls, he’s at ease in the tempo, and we saw him accelerate when PSG were behind. A very good midfielder, he embodies it perfectly.
Fabian Ruiz (6) – Takes up space well, plays fair, but without risk. His first half was timid. Replaced in the 71st minute by Fabian Ruiz.
Attackers –
Ousmane Dembélé (7) – He can make a difference, but struggles to make it happen. His first half was frustrating, as he could make better choices. He remains dangerous and, even if a little less successful, his opponents are wary.
Khvicha Kvratkhelia (8) – Defensively and offensively, he was fair in the first half. However, he failed to make any real impact. His goal in the second half was exceptional, coming from far out and saving PSG’s day. He never stopped running and fighting. Replaced in the 93rd minute by Gonçalo Ramos.
Désiré Doué (8) – The X-factor of the first half, the danger came almost exclusively from him. His goal in the first half was superb. What a talent, we keep coming back for more. Replaced by Bradley Barcola in the 71st minute.
Coach –
Luis Enrique (8) – A real choice, Doué replacing Barcola. A choice that paid off in the first half. However, his PSG was too conservative in the first half. He managed to turn his PSG into a machine. Even if imperfect, this team was able to overwhelm Aston Villa, who offered nothing.
