Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz, 29, impresses with his discretion and commitment on the pitch. According to his former team-mate Tiémoué Bakayoko, who spoke to L’Equipe, the Spaniard hides a real strength of character behind his reserved personality, making him a valuable asset for PSG.
Bakayoko “He’s someone who favours a direct relationship”.
“Fabian is a simple guy, rather discreet in a group. He’s not a show-off, and he’s a real nice guy. He’s someone who prefers a direct relationship. He’s someone who’ll come to you easily to talk, exchange ideas on a game element or other. What I noticed was that he internalized his emotions a lot.
Bakayoko “He’s a real competitor”.
People don’t realize it, but he’s a real competitor. He’s someone who won’t give up. He sets an example by running all the time.
Calm even when celebrating?
Sometimes he can be a little crazy (laughs).”
Bakayoko’s words come as no surprise. Ruiz is often discreet and even on the pitch, he can sometimes be “forgotten”. Yet Ruiz runs a lot, gets a lot of the ball and is very deft with his left foot. Far from being a thrill-seeker, he shines because he fills the gaps in a team.
When a player goes off his game, it’s Ruiz who makes up for it most of the time. It’s invaluable to have a player of this calibre in a team, despite those who make fun of him. Ruiz is a real footballer with character, as you can see on the pitch. Now, he’s very close to writing one of the finest pages in his own and PSG’s history.
