Warren Zaïre-Emery, Paris Saint-Germain’s 19-year-old midfielder, is returning to top form — a resurgence that has earned him a call-up to the French national team for this international break. Speaking to the media, Gérald Baticle, current coach of the France U21 side, praised the young Parisian’s talent and mentality.
Baticle: “I already thought he was in a good phase.”
“I wouldn’t say he needed it. The situation allowed us to select him. We called him up because he’s performing well and is one of the best players in his age group. In practical terms, he came in, enjoyed himself, shared moments, trained, and lived alongside his teammates. He was effective with us.
Did it give him more confidence and energy? I think he already had plenty. I thought he was already in a good phase. Maybe this helped him take another step forward — he’s meeting his goals: enjoying himself, contributing to his generation, and earning his place back as soon as possible.”
For Zaïre-Emery, who had gone through a slightly tougher spell, the opportunity to get minutes with the U21s was important. Even though it’s still the blue shirt, the pressure there is naturally lighter than in the senior squad. Over the past few weeks, he has rediscovered a very encouraging level of performance.
Now back with the senior French team, he’ll have the chance to confirm his strong form. Still only 19, Zaïre-Emery remains a raw but exceptional talent — one who must be allowed to develop patiently, given his youth and relative lack of experience.
