This Wednesday at 9pm (UTC+1), Paris Saint-Germain take on Brest Parc des Princes as part of the Champions League 2024-2025 play-offs (0-3 first leg). In a press conference, Brest coach Eric Roy spoke about the match and the Parisian opponent.

Roy “If I can pass it on to my players, you never know”.

“I’m joking, but how old are you? 40, from 1984? So you must not know much about my career. Oh yes, a little bit? I played a match where I was losing 4-0 at half-time and I won 5-4. So, for me, 3-0 and what’s more, there’s 90 minutes to go, not just 45… Let’s just say it’s something I’m good at. If I can pass it on to my players, you never know.”

Roy “The scenario would be to score in the second (minute), in the tenth and then in the 89th”.

The ideal scenario to set the match alight? To fire up the 2,000 Brest fans who will be there, yes. The scenario would be to score in the second (minute), in the tenth and then in the 89th. That way we’d go into extra time and take penalties afterwards.

Roy “At the moment we don’t have the soccer gods on our side”.

At the moment, we don’t really have the soccer gods on our side. So if we’ve been suffering for a few weeks now and everything lines up on Wednesday, why not? But in any case, that’s what it’s going to take.”

Roy is well aware of the difficulty of the task ahead, but he’s also a former player, and there’s no doubt that part of him dreams of the ideal scenario. Of course, it’s going to be an arduous task, scoring 3 goals without conceding any, and above all holding in his hands an almost impossible feat at the Parc des Princes.

Now, soccer is a fickle sport, and a machine can quickly break down, even if Luis Enrique’s PSG are nothing like their predecessors, capable of both the best and the worst.Under “Lucho”, Paris never falls asleep, remains focused and, above all, is not afraid to win.

The problem for Brest is manifold. They won’t have the ball, so they’ll have to be ultra-realistic, and above all, to score three goals against PSG, they’ll have to attack and therefore expose themselves. It promises to be a beautiful evening, a great party, but it could also be a match that turns quickly for PSG, killing any hope of a rematch as improbable as it is almost impossible.
