Nuno Mendes, Paris Saint-Germain’s 22-year-old full-back, spoke at a press conference with Portugal about the keys to his progress. He believes he learns from his staff, coaches and fellow players on a daily basis.
Nuno Mendes “I work every day to be the best.”
“Is everything going well in Paris this season?
It’s going well, yes. So far, I’ve played a lot of minutes, I’ve played practically every game. I’m feeling good, in the right moments, and it’s important to be at 100%.
I’ve had a few injuries, but now I need to prepare for the games ahead and get some rest, because it’s complicated to play one game after another every three days, so I need to rest well.
Any chance of becoming the world’s best left-back?
I work every day to be the best. I do my job and try to help the team as much as I can. As for being one of the best left-backs in the world, that’s not for me to say. I have my opinion, of course, but I’m not going to give it.
Nuno Mendes: “We’re fighting for every title”
What are your goals with PSG and Portugal?
Obviously, at PSG as with the national team, we’re fighting for every title and, of course, every player wants to win everything.
How can you improve?
I’m trying to improve both defensively and offensively. I think everything has gone well. It’s the work and concentration I try to put in every day, listening to what the coaches have to say, the trainers and my team-mates alike”, comments relayed by Paris SG Infos.
It’s no surprise. Nuno Mendes was already an excellent player. All he needed was a step change, particularly in terms of consistency, and the double confrontation with Liverpool and Mo Salah removed any doubts about the player’s potential.
He’s capable of keeping up, erasing his flaws and turning them into strengths. We know he’s a professional player, who fights for the team and has immense qualities. Now, the hardest thing will be to confirm him again and again.
And that means winning more important matches, with PSG as well as Portugal. We can trust Nuno Mendes’ ambition and hard work. He seems hungry for what’s to come, and we wish him every success in the future.
